In short

An A4 tri fold brochure on 170gsm art paper costs about 9 rupees each at one thousand copies. Laminated menu cards start at 65 rupees. Booklets are quoted per job because the page count drives everything. Printing takes three to five working days once artwork is approved.

Brochures for schools and colleges, product catalogues for feed and hardware dealers, menu cards for hotels and tiffin centres, and souvenir booklets for temple and school functions. The one rule that governs all of them is that a booklet page count must be a multiple of four, because pages are printed on a sheet folded in half. Somebody discovers this at artwork stage on roughly every second booklet job.

How it works, step by step

  1. Fix the page count and the fold

    your side

A booklet page count must divide by four. Eight, twelve, sixteen, twenty. If your content comes to fourteen pages, you are printing sixteen and two will be blank or filled, and it is better to decide which now.

  2. Artwork or we set it

    1 to 3 days

Send a press ready PDF in CMYK at 300dpi with 3mm bleed, or send us the content and photographs and we lay it out.

  3. Proof

    1 day

For anything folded we give you a folded blank dummy in the actual paper as well as a printed proof. How a fold sits in the hand is not visible on a screen.

  4. Print and finish

    2 to 4 days

Printed, folded, and stitched or bound. Lamination on menus adds a day for the coating to cure before trimming.

If you have one thing to say, a flyer says it for a tenth of the cost. A brochure earns its price when there are six panels of content that belong together.

Four things that decide whether a brochure works

  • Page count divides by four or you are paying for blank pages. This catches out roughly every second booklet job at artwork stage, and by then the content is written and reorganising it is painful.
  • Gloss lamination cracks along a fold. On a folded menu or brochure, matte lamination survives and gloss shows a white line down the crease within a fortnight of daily handling. On a flat sheet either is fine.
  • For a menu, print prices as a separate laminated strip that slots in, or accept you will reprint the whole menu when rates change. Hotels that laminate prices into the main sheet reprint the entire menu twice a year, which costs more than the strip approach over any two year period.
  • Ask for a folded dummy in the real paper before approving. A 130gsm tri fold and a 170gsm tri fold feel completely different in the hand and identical on a screen, and the paper is the larger part of the cost.

Frequently asked questions

How much does brochure printing cost in Palakollu?

An A4 tri fold on 170gsm art paper printed both sides is about 9,000 rupees for one thousand copies, which is 9 rupees each. Five hundred copies cost 5,800 and two thousand cost 15,500.

Why must a booklet have a page count divisible by four?

Pages are printed on a sheet that is folded in half, so each sheet carries four pages. A fourteen page booklet is physically printed as sixteen, with two pages blank or filled. Plan the content around eight, twelve, sixteen or twenty.

How much is a laminated menu card?

Sixty five rupees each for an A4 laminated both sides in small quantities, dropping to 52 above two thousand. An A3 folded and laminated menu is 110 rupees each.

Should menus be gloss or matte laminated?

Matte for anything folded. Gloss lamination cracks along a fold and shows a white line down the crease within a fortnight of daily handling. On a flat single sheet menu either works.

How long does a brochure take?

Three to five working days once the artwork is approved. Add a day for lamination, because the coating cures before trimming.

Can you design the brochure as well?

Yes. Send the content and the photographs and we lay it out. Design is charged separately and starts at 500 rupees for a tri fold, free above five thousand copies.
